Thank you for taking an interest in Phi Sigma Sigma,

Theta Xi Chapter at Nova Southeastern University.

Our Chapter is made up of diverse, motivated women who come from many different cultural backgrounds. We are an individually unique group of women who became sisters by chance but have become best friends by choice.

Founded in November 26, 1913 by Lillian Gordon Alpern, Josephine Ellison Breakstone, Fay Chertkoff, Estelle Melnick Cole, Jeanette Lipka Furst, Ethel Gordon Kraus, Shriley Cohen Laufer, Claire Wunder McArdle, Rose Sher Seidman and Gwen Zaliels Snyder, in Hunter College, Phi Sigma Sigma was the first collegiate nonsectarian sorority that opened its doors to women of all faiths and backgrounds.

Our mission to inspire the personal development of each sister and perpetuate the advancement of womanhood, has helped shape a broad spectrum of outstanding women such as Marian Rosen, the youngest woman lawyer to appear before the Supreme Court of the United States, and Nancy Pimental, writer for the TV series “South Park”. These women are examples of how diverse our sisters can be, but also serve as testimony to our vision statement, which is that Phi Sigma Sigma is a dynamic sisterhood of powerful women fostering uncompromising principles, while igniting positive change and embracing individuality.

We are excited that you have taken an interest in Phi Sigma Sigma, and encourage you to look through our website to answer any questions you may have. We also invite you to contact us through here or in person, by talking to any of our sisters about what Phi Sigma Sigma means to us, and what it can mean for you!

A Message from the President

Tamara Taber

As an incoming freshman, my best friend encouraged me to go through Fall recruitment. On September 8th, 2013, I received my bid from Phi Sigma Sigma and could not have been happier. As I look back on my freshman year on that day, I am humbled by how much this sorority has helped me grow as an individual.

I went from being a shy freshman from out-of-state to the Archon of the Theta Xi chapter. I am so thankful to lead this group of women who have helped shape me into the person I am today. Everyday, my sisters exemplify our motto to “Aim High” and have taught me what it means to wear these letters and represent something bigger than myself.

Although, these letters do not make me better than anyone else, they do make me better than the person I used to be. Phi Sigma Sigma is a vision that celebrates the essence of all that is best in women. Each day, my sisters and I live by our core values of lifelong learning, leadership through service, and inclusiveness.

We push one another to aim high in the classroom, on Nova Southeastern University's campus, and in our community. From late night study sessions to participating in community service projects, or even hosting one of the largest spring philanthropy events at NSU, this chapter is the place for me. I wouldn't trade my experience as a Phi Sig for anything.

I invite you to get to know myself and any of my sisters to see what Phi Sigma Sigma is all about!
